When fillings aren’t enough, dental crowns may be what you need

No matter how well you take care of your smile, sometimes your teeth will become decayed, broken or cracked. And when a filling won’t help, luckily a crown can do the job.

What is a dental crown?

A crown is a type of dental restoration that completely covers a damaged tooth. They might also be used to cap a dental implant when replacing missing teeth, and are quite commonly applied in conjunction with a root canal. You might also need a crown to support a tooth with a large filling.

How much do dental crowns cost?

The cost for crowning a tooth depends on the materials used, as well as the size, location and condition of the tooth. For example, porcelain crowns are typically more expensive than gold crowns, which are typically more expensive than porcelain-fused-to-metal crowns. Generally, crowns can range in cost from $500 to $3000 per crown, but the good news is that  a portion of the cost of crowns is generally covered by insurance. To be certain, though, we always check with your dental insurance company first.

Bottom line: until we see you, it’s impossible to say exactly what the cost with be. Schedule a consultation with Dr. Schechter and we’ll determine what your dental crown cost would be.

Types of tooth crowns

Crowns can be made from a variety of materials, including:

  • Cerec crowns
  • Temporary crowns
  • Gold crown tooth
  • Porcelain crown
  • Zirconia crowns/Zirconium crowns

Every type of crown has its own distinct pros and cons. We can help you decide what type would work best for you, or if you even need one.
